Languages

Our ability to speak is something what makes us different from animals. We use languages for communicating fact, ideas, for telling stories, poems, for asking questions or explaining things. We can also use a body-language and mimics.

English comes from 3 languages: Old Norse, German and French. The Old English was clearly Germanic language similar to modern Dutch or German.

LEARNING FOREIGN LANGUAGES

• Studying foreign languages is important for everybody. We have many reasons to study them. We need languages for travelling, for reading foreign materials and books, for business communication etc. That is why people all around the world try to study foreign languages. But the most important language for the world communication is English. English has the largest vocabulary of all the world’s languages. In the “Oxford English dictionary” there are over 500,000 words..

What makes English relatively easy to learn is the fact that there is no declension using different endings and the cases are differentiated by prepositions. On the other hand, there are many problems with pronunciation because of the big differences between the written and spoken forms."

English belongs to Indo-European family of languages.

In English there are many words, which came from other languages for example:

France: Language, Parliament, Hotel, Example

German: Man, House, and, summer

Czech: Robot

Dialects are varieties of language that differ in pronouncation, vocabulary and grammar from each other and from standart english.

A world language is not only characterized by the large number of its speakers (native or second language speakers), but also by its geographical distribution, and its use in international organizations and in diplomatic or trade relations. World languages in this sense are the six official languages of the UN (Chinese, English, French, Russian, Spanish, and Arabic)

However, English is without a doubt the actual universal language. It means that it is a language spoken internationally and learned by many people as a second language. More than billion people speak English as a first or second language and it is the official language in 53 countries. English is the language of the Internet. Around 75% of the emails sent in the world and 80% of the world wide web is in English.
